May 5, 2022

The most significant portion of the Main Administration Building renovation will be focused on the George Goodman, DC Learning Resource Center (LRC) and the relocation of the bookstore to the current LRC space. This work is scheduled to start in Spring 2023.

Renovation plans are based on student, faculty and staff feedback which indicated a need for more study spaces and natural light. Ittner Architects, who designed the space to accommodate Logan’s needs, added that, “a university library today, and in the future, is about more than books. Libraries are community places, both symbolic and functional representations of scholarship. To serve the needs of the Logan Community the Learning Resource Center must be accessible and accommodate both independent and collaborative activities.”

Renovation will include:

  • The removal of the physical barriers around the Learning Resource Center: walls, security portals, etc. will increase visibility, student access and integration into campus life.
  • Staff spaces and resources are located at the intersection of the primary library spaces to improve student access.
  • Spaces and furniture will accommodate a greater range of technology and activities from individual quiet study to collaborative groups.
  • The window systems will be replaced to increase natural light and improve comfort.
  • The bookstore will be relocated and re-built with connections to the Library for greater student access.

Will the LRC close during construction?

No, the LRC services will remain open for the duration of construction; instead, parts of the LRC space will be unavailable while construction is taking place. Students and faculty will have the ability to check out materials from the circulation desk at all times.

Where can I study while portions of the LRC is closed?

The Purser Center lobby will be dedicated for students to study and have small group collaborations. Tables and chairs will be moved into that space prior to Spring 2023.

What is happening with the stained glass in the LRC?

The stained glass will be displayed as part of an outdoor installation where individuals can sit and reflect. It will serve as both a tribute to our campus predecessor Maryknoll Seminary as well as individuals who generously donated their bodies to Logan University. The stained glass installation is currently being proposed for the west side of campus, just north of parking lot 3. It will be accessible via a stairway from parking lot 3 and an ADA accessible ramp leading from the Administration Building. Click here to see artist renderings of the stained glass installation.

As a reminder, the campus construction project is being funded through three efforts: financing through an existing long-term relationship with the university’s banking partner, a strategic spend in cash reserves and the “Advancing Education, Transforming Lives” capital campaign, including a $1 million lead gift from Logan alum Dr. Arlan (’61) and Mrs. Judi Fuhr.

For questions, please contact a member of the Construction Communications Committee.

As we look toward construction on the Administration Building, specifically the Learning Resources Center, leadership wanted to ensure we honor the history of Logan’s campus while providing the best facilities to our students.

One important piece of feedback we hear from students and staff is that the light in LRC is not conducive to reading. In efforts to improve the lighting conditions, we will be moving the stained glass to an alternative location on campus that highlights and celebrate its value here at Logan.

The stained glass will be displayed as part of an outdoor installation where individuals can sit and reflect. It will serve as a tribute to Maryknoll Seminary, the previous owner of campus property, and individuals who have generously donated their bodies to Logan University’s Anatomy Lab.

The structures will be refurbished and ready for occupation before the start of the summer trimester (week of May 9).

The modular structures will be located in lot 9, next to the Standard Process Student Center. This area will be closed to parking.

What are the modular structures for?

During the two-year construction timeframe, the modular structures will serve as additional space for classrooms and faculty and staff offices.

Clinical lab classes displaced by the construction will move to both the William D. Purser Center and modular classrooms. Offices displaced by the construction will move temporarily to several newly renovated offices in the Administration Building and in the modular office structure.

Individuals will rotate through the modular structures, based on construction demands and as construction is both started and completed in various areas.  Relocation assignments and details will be provided directly to those impacted.

Fuhr Science Building

  • Current # Faculty/Staff in Science Bldg: 21
  • Number of Temporary Work Spaces (Modular & in Admin Bldg.): 25
  • Post-Construction Number of New Offices: 30

How big are the modular structures?

Each modular structure is 24 feet wide by 48 feet long, providing a total of 1,125 square feet of interior space.

The modular classrooms each provide room for 20 and 21, respectively, adjusting tables. The modular office provides space for 20 work stations.

Faculty and staff members who are rotating through the modular office structure will have an assigned desk, a small secured cabinet for belongings and their current computer/phone. Due to a limited amount of space in the trailers, all personal items should go home. Only office items will be transferred to the trailers. If you need storage for anything other than personal items, it should be marked on the boxes that are provided to you. Facilities will work directly with those individuals needing to relocate.

What do the modular structures look like?

When the modular structures arrive on campus, they will be completely refurbished from top to bottom, including new exterior and interior painting and carpeting. Wooden walkways between the modular classrooms and offices, a ramp and a canopy over the walkway, will be constructed. The structures will provide air-conditioning and heat, and will have windows for natural light
